There are a variety of factors to consider when you are deciding whether to hire a confinement lady. One of these considerations would be the nanny’s sleeping arrangements. Most parents opt to let their confinement nanny sleep in the same room as their newborn. This way, your nanny can watch over your baby through the night while you get some well-deserved rest.
In general, most nannies will expect to have their own bedroom with at least a standing or ceiling fan. If you only have a mattress or roll-out bedding, be sure to inform her advance. Remember to take into account how she will need to wake up repeatedly through the night. She will also require access to a bathroom, whether one of her own or one that is shared with other family members. Your nanny will usually hand-wash her own clothes in the bathroom, though some might ask to use your washing machine.
An effective arrangement would be to have your baby’s cot in your confinement lady’s room, so that your newborn can sleep with her if and when it suits you. If you have set up a nursery for your little one, your nanny can sleep in the same room there as long as she has a small space of her own to put her personal belongings. Some parents prefer to establish a certain level of trust with their nanny before allowing her to sleep with their newborn.
On the other hand, there are also many mums who prefer to room with their baby for easy access to them. This is so that they can bond better with their newborn and for convenience when it comes to breastfeeding. It also makes for an easier transition after your postpartum period when your nanny leaves. Ultimately, you decide what is best for all parties involved.

A comfortable environment and being provided with what she needs will also allow your nanny to perform her duties efficiently. Don’t forget to give your nanny her own space and privacy!
